Jump! announces Springboard Series 2017, March 17, 18 and 19 in San Francisco!

We are excited to announce Springboard Series 2017, new works comprised of short plays, excerpts and monologues created by local playwrights responding to Jump’s mission of telling authentic stories of mental illness from a variety of perspectives.

This year’s series incudes monologues on love, obsession and music by Diana Slampyak, Suzanne Gamble and Jeanne Lupton; short works by Ashley Smiley and Gaetana Caldwell-Smith on migraines and motherhood, and a staged reading of “No Believers” by playwright and director Roberta D’Alois. “No Believers” follows a young priest and a childhood friend as they discover the voices they have been hearing may be genuine calls to action.

Jump!‘s Springboard Series has developed plays that have gone on to win the Heidemann Award from the Actors Theatre of Louisville, garnered several New York productions, and have won several other awards including CASH grants from Theatre Bay Area.

Dates: March 17 and 18, 2017 at 8 PM short pieces followed by No Believers

Please support our friends at Theatre of Yugen!

Theatre of Yugen, San Francisco presents Sorya! 2014 for its 35th Anniversary

As one of the few female artistic directors of any size theater, Yuriko Doi was an innovator beyond the carefully scripted, East-West fusion work she brought to Western audiences at Theatre Of Yugen. As one of a very few classically trained female Noh and Kyogen expert practitioners, Ms. Doi developed her signature work involving the blending of other cultures with Japanese traditional theater styles in such works as Blood Wine, Blood Wedding, a Kabuki-Flamenco collaboration; Bright and Gifted, in partnership with the experimental playwright Erik Ehn and her groundbreaking Noh Christmas Carol, a Company staple for many years.

Now retired as Founding Artistic Director of the company she established in San Francisco in 1978, Doi returns to Theatre of Yugen this spring to perform in the Company’s annual SORYA! Festival. This year’s event marks the Company’s 35th year, and is presided over by the Company’s current Artistic Director Jubilith Moore.

Performers for this year’s festival are Sheila Berotti, Sheila Devitt, Yuriko Doi, Alexander Lydon, Karen Marek, Jubilith Moore and Lluis Valls.

Performance Dates: March 15-24
