Collaborator news:

Some work our collaborators are up to:

Scott Mc Morrow’s play, (before) The Rubaiyyat of Omar Khayaam, will be part of Pegasus Theater’s TAPAS short works Festival, starting May 21 and running through June 13, 2010. It’s in lovely Rio Nido California – what better excuse for a day away!

Molly Holcomb, featured in Jump!’s recent Springboard V as Jolie in Nomy Lamm’s play Embroiled, is next appearing in TERRORiSTKA, a new play by Rebecca Bella.

TERRORiSTKA tells the true story of a young Chechen woman who attempts to flee her war-ravaged country by joining a rebel faction that trains her as a suicide bomber.

Jessica Holt (Three Wise Monkeys) is directing the play for Threshold;theatre on the verge, a new Berkeley-based theatre company that she says “was founded on the shared belief that theatremaking is alive with risk, alive with language, metaphor, material bodies, and emotional expression.”

TERRORiSTKA opens April 30 and runs through May 16 at the Berkeley City Club. Go to http://thethresholdproject.blogspot.com/ for more info and tickets.

Jump! awarded a 2009 Theatre Bay Area CA$H Grant

It’s old news by now, but we wanted to let you know that Jump! was awarded a 2009 Theatre CA$H Grant from Theatre Bay Area. We’re honored! We’ll be using this grant to produce Liz Gjelten’s new play, Hunter’s Point, a play about fierce love and bicycles that asks: What is ‘moral treatment’ of the homeless mentally ill, and what prevents our society from providing it? True to Jump!’s aesthetic, the play will layer music and video projections to create a multi-media theatre experience that’s deeply rooted in our hometown of San Francisco.

What better way to celebrate than to gather together and drink a toast at a local watering hole? Here’s the crowd:

Jumpers gathered in fall 2009 to celebrate receiving a CA$H Grant to produce Hunter's Point.

From the left (standing), that’s Gaetana, Roberta, Bob (Roberta’s husband), Rebecca, Justin (Rebecca’s husband), Nena and Mike. Seated are Paoli (holding Lulu) and Liz — the playwright and guest of honor!

We’re looking forward to a reading of the current Hunter’s Point script on April 25, 2010 as part of Springboard V.

Springboard V is coming soon!

We had our first all-company production meeting last week and hammered out a lot of details. Mike Lewis our tech director figured out an awesome way to build doors in the space which will amaze you!

We also figured out rehearsal schedules, finished casting and made sure we could fit enough chairs in the Meridian space to fit everyone who wants to attend.

The directors had paid a visit to the space earlier in the week and it’s just as beautiful as we remembered.

Keep an eye out on this space for more details as they happen. And mark your calendars for April 23, 24 and 25 when Springboard V will be upon us.
